Everything in between OCTOBER

Morocco

Welcome! Thank you for visiting; everything in-between is a continuation of what I Know About Life, Love and Acne. However, I have started a journal page because there is so much more to say.

Firstly it is fall! I looked at my calendar today and realized we are at the end of October! When did that happen?

I have just arrived home from Morocco, where I spent a week practicing yoga in the beautiful morning sun. Getting daily massage, experiencing the hammam, lying by the pool, reading, visiting with new friends, sleeping, and taking in all that Tigmi Resort and retreat center had to offer.

I hadn't been to Morocco before but have always wanted to go. I always had the calling to visit, so when the opportunity came up with my yoga instructor Nancy Lea, I jumped at it.

For me, Morocco was a life-changing experience. It's difficult to explain why, but the culture, the vibe, the people, the climate, the colors, and the food (very disagreeable to my delicate system) changed the way I see the world and my privilege.

Morocco is unlike anywhere I have ever been. Bustling with beautiful people and bursting with vibrant colors and smells. Pink clay and golden brown sand, green hills, and sepia-colored valleys. The Atlas Mountains in the distance, ancient architecture, ruins, and adobe villages line the dirt roads surrounding the city, country, and the town near the retreat center.

The heat was intense, and then it was cold. The climate changed daily, the rain’s came and flooded our little retreat center, and within hours the sun came out again.

Wildlife was all around us, birds unique to that part of the world singing their morning song as we did our yoga practice while the rooster crowed nearby to wake up his village. Donkey's hauling the load, chickens running in the streets, goats eating in our backyard, cats, dogs, rabbits, and turtles all live as they do while the village children played in the street and the call to prayer played on a loudspeaker in the distance. The smell of smoke from a firepit in the background permeated the air—both mysterious and enchanting.

We live in a big world with so much to see, learn and do. It's easy to get mired in the minutia of our lives. We must remember to look around, go somewhere new, try something different, and to be uncomfortable. I'm guilty of not doing this, but I’m changing that as I write this. I'm fortunate to live in a small, prosperous community and have a luxurious life by most standards. I have healthcare, clean food and water, and a warm home.

These are just some thoughts on life, love, acne and the larger world we live in.

Happy Halloween xo
